The Engines of The Upstairs Train (3 of 4) | |||||||||
I
bought this #473 Santa Fe Alco dummy to use its chassis for one of the
C&O shells, but it turned out to be a nicer engine than I expected
so I kept it as it is. |
|||||||||
I
later got another 473 that was on an LTI can motor chassis that I used
for the C&O engine. Then I got an old 481 Silver Flash
chassis for that 473 and voila - a double engine set! |
|||||||||
I finally found a 471 dummy B-Unit on ebay and ... |
|||||||||
An assembled 4713 Sante Fe Chief ABA engine set! Gilbert made these from 1954 to 1957. |
|||||||||
The other Sante Fe Chief Alcos: #4856 that was used in three freight train sets in 1956 & 1957. |

The 484 powered unit |

The 485 dummy B-unit |

The 486 dummy A-unit |

I
assembled a 4745 Rocket Alco set the same way as I did the 4713.
I bought a batch of chasses and found a 475 shell to put on one of the
dummy chasses. New decals, couplers, horns, and air vent will
restore it to Very Good condition. And I just bought a 474
powered Rocket A-Unit to complete the set. |

The powered 474. |

And the completed 4745 engine set as made by Gilbert in 1954 & 1955. |
