Alco Diesel Engines (4 of 6)

Gilbert made 28 distinct Alco Diesel Engines as listed on a page and a half of the TM Guide, not counting the variations on some of the 28. Lionel made 26 more up through 2006 under the American Flyer name. Because there are so many, I have split them up over six web pages:

Gilbert Alcos #362 through #467 are on page 1
                      #472 through #4945 are on page 2

                      #21551 through #21929 are on page 3
Lionel Alcos #8150 through # 47998 are on this page
                      #48100 through #48116 are on
page 5
                      #48117 through 48162 are on
page 6

In 2014 Lionel changed its numbering; until then the sequence of numbers matched the sequence of product release.

Unless otherwise specified, the large pictures on this page are of engines in the collection of The Upstairs Train.

If you have a picture that you would like to share with the world of any of the engines not shown here (or a better picture of one that is shown!), email them to me: theupstairstrain@gmail.com.

Lionel made the following engines under their American Flyer name:

When I get all the pages built, that will work for all engines.  For now, it only works for the ones I own.

Southern Pacific Daylight set, comprising a #8150 Powered A Unit and
#8152 dummy A Unit (below),  made in 1981.
It matched the
Southern Pacific streamlined passenger cars, but they were not sold together as a set.

The matching #8151 B Unit was made the following year, 1982.

#48123 Southern Pacific Dummy B-Unit with rail sounds made in 1993.

Baltimore & Ohio set, comprising a #8153 Powered A Unit and #8155 dummy A Unit, made in 1981 & 1983.
They pulled the
HAR#1 Baltimore & Ohio Freight Set.

Unlike other American Flyer Alco units, the #8153 and #8155 sported their numbers on the front.

The matching #8154 dummy B Unit was also part of the HAR#1 set, made in the same years.

Together, they are a handsome set!

Erie #8251/8253 set, comprising a #8251 Powered A Unit and #8253 dummy A Unit, made in 1982.
It matched the
Erie streamlined passenger cars, but they were not sold together as a set.

The matching #8252 dummy B Unit was sold separately in the same year.
