Tank Cars (5 of 5)
Gilbert made 24 distinct tank cars as listed on a little over a page of the TM Guide, not counting the variations on some of the 24.  Lionel made 38 more up through 2006 under the American Flyer name.  Because there are so many, I have split them up over five web pages:

Gilbert tank cars #625 through #925 are
page 1
                             #926 through #24321 are on
page 2
                             #24322 through #24330 are on
page 3
Lionel tank cars  #9100 through #48406 are on
page 4
#48407 and above, plus my American Models and K-Line tank cars are on this page

Unless otherwise specified, the large pictures on this page are of cars in the collection of The Upstairs Train.

If you have a picture that you would like to share with the world of any of the cars not shown here (or a better picture of one that is shown!), email them to me: theupstairstrain@yahoo.com.

American Models #504 GATX J. M. Huber tank car.  As you can see in the picture below, this modern tank car is somewhat larger, and a lot more detailed and precisely scaled that the Gilbert cars.  The Gilbert cars were designed as toys to be played with by young boys.  The American Models cars clearly are not.
K-Line K511-015 Texaco Tank Car.
K-Line cars are O-Scale bodies on S-Gauge trucks.
The trucks are really nice spring-mounted trucks, but they look undersized on such a large car.
You can really see the difference when you put one next to a Gilbert tank car.
